This program delivers Regional Investments by focusing on
building the community awareness of the natural resource management
issues and the cultural heritage of this region’s Indigenous
people.
Climate
The delivery of solutions to Natural Resource Management issues
in this region is seen as occurring within a context of climate
change. This has implications for how we apply ourselves
as an organisation to our mission which is to:
‘manage the natural
resources and biodiversity of the region by engaging our community
in adaptive management solutions.'
Community
As a Regional Group we invest in our 3 Catchment & Landcare
Groups – our key partners who work closely
with our community as members of the Regional Body’s
team.
These groups and their members are indispensable to the delivery of
this Region’s Regional Investment Strategy. Our Catchment
& Landcare Coordinators – Saskia von Fahland, Jane Eales
and Christine Peterson directly manage the interface between the
community, our group, it's Regional Plan and the government who
co-invests in the resource management solutions we provide.
Most of our community awareness and
engagement activities are implemented through these
community–based groups who deliver sustainable agriculture,
biodiversity and waterways management outcomes through highly
valued, direct relationships with volunteers and landholders.
The success of Catchment &
Landcare Groups in the delivery land, water and vegetation
management outcomes -using the Sustainable Landscapes and
Healthy Waterways initiatives - demonstrates that the
maintenance of community relationships by these groups is the key
to connecting local people to regionally-strategic solutions.
